Integrative Health is the joining of complementary and alternative medicine with biomedicine. The titles of the types of medicine practised in the Western hemisphere simply refer to the type of medicine practised as one steps into a typical medical doctor's office and/or a typical medical hospital whether it be a teaching hospital or not.

Western medicine is the type of medicine one usually finds in a hospital. It is also referred to as biomedicine or allopathic medicine. It is the practise of of diagnosing a patient's problems - termed as symptoms - using procedures such as blood tests and X-rays - and treating the patient's symptoms to help the patient feel better and hopefully recover. Treatments range from surgery to medication to therapy such as physical therapy or physiotherapy.

Complementary and alternative medicine (also know as CAM) refer to healthcare practises, such as chiropractic, massage therapy and herbology and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture, which are healthcare treatments and therapies practised by a growing number of practitioners and sought out by a growing number of people seeking alternatives to the mainstream Western medicine. These therapies and practises are viewed by Western medicine as alternatives to the scientific medicine and treatments provided in hospitals and sometimes are considered to complement the treatments provided by Western, scientific medicine. - Hence the term: Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Coaching is an approach in which a person seeks assistance in the form of support, from a life-coach to help him/her through a period in his/her life. Coaches typically have a niche or a specialty - an area of focus such as writing coaches, single mothers in transition coaches or relationship coaches, divorce coaches or business and executive coaches.

Whatever a particular coach's specialty or niche, the coach works with a person in a collaborative partnership rather than from a position of expertise.
